Chrissy Metz chose a GLP one medication for her health, not a number on the scale

Chrissy Metz says she began taking a GLP one medication after years of skepticism because she wanted to protect her health and future. Health issues her father faced before he died made her worry about what could happen if she did not act. Friends who reported benefits beyond weight loss encouraged her to research the medication, though she still had questions about side effects, how she would feel, and whether it would work. She says she has been on and off it, so she cannot clearly place its start against her recent Broadway run in 'and Juliet'.

Metz reports more energy, better sleep, less inflammation, and a striking reduction in 'food noise': the mental preoccupation with the next snack or meal even while eating breakfast. She noticed that change within a week and says it freed her attention for other things. The physical demands of Broadway—eight shows a week, quick costume changes, and two and a half hours of near-constant movement—also showed her a difference: she doubts she could have managed the run six months earlier. These are her experiences, not a claim that everyone will have the same results.

Making the decision publicly carried another burden. Strangers had assigned meaning to her body whether she gained or lost weight, and she says the 'body positive' label was given to her rather than chosen by her. She tries not to attach herself to either praise or criticism: other people's perceptions are not her truth. Even after researching the medication, she was frightened of administering her first dose incorrectly and delayed it by about two days; a friend stayed on the phone while she took it. Her conclusion is that she had to make the choice she believed was best for her health, regardless of public opinion.
